The general wall thickness is 3/16".

What application are JAZ Products fuel cells designed to be used in?

JAZ Products fuel cells are made for Circle Track, Drag Race, Off-Road, Road Race, and many other racing applications.

Do the Polyethylene fuel cells carry SFI certification?

Most JAZ Products polyethylene fuel cells exceed SFI Spec. 28.1, but only the fuel cells labeled “THIS FUEL CELL CARRIES SFI CERTIFICATION” are actually certified. Only the fuel cells that are specifically designed for classes that require SFI certification receive a serial number and SFI label. If the fuel cell you require does not come standard with certification, JAZ Products can SFI certify any polyethylene, Pro Sport, or Specialized cell (with foam) for a nominal fee of $100.00.

Do the Polyethylene fuel cells carry FIA certification?

Our fuel cells are not approved for FIA. FIA requires a bag-type rubber bladder and not a hard plastic shell. You can try Fuel Safe for these types of fuel cells.

Can an internal fuel pump be installed into our Polyethylene cells?

Yes. However, our polyethylene fuel cells are not designed for use with internal fuel pumps, as there is no existing provision for mounting. An internal pump can be drilled and installed by the customer.

What racing sanctions are JAZ Products fuel cells approved for?

All JAZ Products fuel cells are NHRA and IHRA approved. Our Pro Sport and other fuel cells with outer metal container are BITD, IMCA, LOORRS, and SCORE legal. The wall thickness is 90 thousandths (.090") thick.

Does JAZ Products offer custom fuel cells?

Our polyethylene and polyethylene with outer metal container (Example: Pro Sport) fuel cells can be customized. The size and/or location of fittings can be modified per the customer's request. Also, the filler cap type and/or location can be modified. A fuel level sending unit can also be added if fuel cell is tall enough and has a sufficient mounting surface to accept one. There is a $25.00 labor charge for custom cells.

All Aluminum fuel cells are pre-built and no fitting changes can be made. The fuel cap can be changed out for a different 6-bolt cap or filler upon request. For models that come with a fuel level sending unit, the sending unit can be changed out for a different ohms range other than the standard 0-90 ohms upon request.

We do not offer custom-molded fuel cells. The sizes we carry in our product catalog are the only cells available. Our flat bottom polyethylene fuel cells can be flipped on their side or stood up on end and custom-built with fittings & filler installed on desired top portion. The customer can try Fuel Safe for a custom-molded fuel cell made to their specifications.

What applications have JAZ Products fuel cells been used in other than racing?

We have sold our fuel cells for Marine, Motorcycle, ATV and other various applications. However, we do not recommend using our fuel cells in an airplane application.

JAZ Products fuel cells are made for racing applications only. Our fuel cells are not D.O.T. approved and are not designed for street use.

How do I determine which part number of mounting straps to order for my Polyethylene fuel cell?

You would need to match the middle three digits of the mounting strap part number with the middle three digits of the fuel cell part number. For example, if you have a fuel cell with part number 250-016-01, you would need mounting strap part # 400-016-03.

Do you offer mounting straps for the Pro Sport, Pro Max, and Pro Lite, JEEPSpeed, and Tear Drop fuel cells?

Straps are available for the Tear Drop fuel cell only. All other mounting straps are designed for our polyethylene fuel cells. You would need to make custom straps, tubing, or a cage to mount these fuel cells. Artec Industries offers mounting straps which fits some of our Pro Sport fuel cell models.

How can I tell which AN fittings are for Pickup/Outlet, Return, and Vent?

Plastic AN fitting caps are plasced over each AN fitting when leaving our facility. These plastic caps are color coded to designate the use of each type of fitting. Here is the Plastic AN Fitting Cap Color Code Key: Orange/Red cap is Pickup/Outlet, Yellow cap is Return, and Blue is Vent.

Fuel Cell Safety Foam

What is the life expectancy of our safety foam?

There is no set life to the safety foam, and can last up to 10+ years without needing to be replaced. The inline fuel filters going to the fuel pump should be checked often.

Can the safety foam be used with pump & racing fuels?

Yes. With pump fuels, up to 10% to 15% Ethanol is acceptable for use with the safety foam. The inline fuel filters going to the fuel pump should be checked often.

Can the safety foam be used with Alcohol / Methanol / Ethanol (including E85) fuels?

No. Alcohol, Methanol, and Ethanol fuels are not recommended with our safety foam. We also do not recommend E85 fuel. The water content in these fuels will cause the safety foam to deteriorate.

Can the safety foam be used with Diesel fuels?

Yes. We recommend with the use of Diesel fuels the safety foam be replaced once a year or once a season. The inline fuel filters going to the fuel pump should be checked often. The water content in the Diesel fuel will cause the safety foam to deteriorate.

Can the safety foam be used with Water (in an Intercooler or ice water tank)?

We do not recommend using the safety foam with water. The water will cause the safety foam to deteriorate.

How can you tell if the safety foam is bad and needs to be replaced?

The foam will turn to granules or look like a flame burned it. Using Alcohol, Methanol, and Ethanol fuel, as well as other fuel additives causes this. Also, if you notice signs of deterioration in the fuel cell or at the inline fuel filters, the foam may need to be replaced.

How much safety foam should be installed into a fuel cell?

The foam should take up about 40-50% on larger capacity to 75% on small capacity (1-3 gal.) of fillable void. The foam will expand when fuel is added.

How much volume of fuel does the safety foam displace?

The foam will take up anywhere from 1% to 4% of the volume of the fuel cell. This varies depending on the gallon capacity of the fuel cell. The smaller fuel cells, like 1 to 5 gallons will be around 1% to 2%. The larger fuel cells, like 16 to 32 gallons will be around 3% to 4%.

Fuel Cell Cap Assemblies & Filler Necks

What wrench size would you use for the 1/4" bolts on your Cap Assemblies and Filler Necks?

For the 1/4" bolts on the Caps & Fillers, we use a 7/16" wrench. A shorter (6") wrench works best.

What is the Outside Diameter, Inside Diameter, and Bolt Circle Diameter on your 6-bolt Cap Assemblies and Filler Necks?

Our 6-bolt Caps & Fillers have a 5" O.D.
The I.D. is 3-3/4"
The Bolt Circle Diameter is 4-3/8"

What is the Outside Diameter, Inside Diameter, and Bolt Circle Diameter on your 12-bolt Cap Assemblies and Filler Necks?

Our 12-bolt Caps & Fillers have a 6-1/8" O.D.
The I.D. is 4-3/8"
The Bolt Circle Diameter is 5-3/8"

If I have a 6-bolt Cap or Filler, could I change to a 12-bolt Cap or Filler?

No. The 12-bolt I.D. hole size, which is 4-3/8", would not fully cover the existing 6-bolt pattern.

Can your Vented Caps be used as a stand-alone vent for the fuel cell?

No. Our vented caps are not a sufficient standalone vent for the fuel cells. These have a minimal vent that allows for displacement of fuel. The fuel cell requires a completely open vent fitting installed. If tank is not properly vented, fuel starvation may occur.

Do you carry any non-Vented Cap Assemblies?

Yes. Our Bail Handle (D-ring) Cap (Part # 350-301-03), 12-bolt Fill Valve with Red Plastic Cap (Part # 390-004-06), 12-bolt Fill Valve / Check Valve Flapper (Part # 391-251-03), 12-bolt Short Fill Valve / Check Valve Flapper (Part # 391-252-03), Billet Style Caps (Part # 391-352-06 and Part # 391-452-06), and Indy Caps (Part # 391-551-03 and Part # 391-552-03) come with a non-vented cap. These non-vented caps are approved for IMCA use. All other caps that we carry are vented caps. However, we do offer non-vented caps for all other cap assemblies and filler necks. These can be ordered upon special request.

On the Fast Fill Valves when fueling a fuel cell, does the weight of the fuel allow the spring-loaded Flapper to drop down?

Yes. The Fast Fill Valves are made for remote fill applications with a fuel filler hose attached. The weight of the fuel in the filler hose will allow the spring-loaded Flapper to drop down. You can also adjust the tension nut on the end of the spring-loaded flapper if necessary.

What is the height of the Filler Neck on your 45-degree Fast Fill Valves?

The filler neck on our 45-degree Fast Fill Valves is 4-1/4" tall. This is the height from the flange straight up to the tip of the filler neck.

What is the height of the Filler Neck on your Straight Fast Fill Valves?

The filler neck on our Straight Fast Fill Valves is 1-15/16" tall. The Straight Fast Fill Valve with Cap is 2" tall.

What is the diameter of the Filler Neck on your 6-bolt Dragster Fillers?

Our Dragster Fillers have a 2-1/2" Outside Diameter filler neck.

What is the cap hole opening size on your Bail Handle (D-ring) Cap Assemblies?

The 12-bolt Bail Handle Cap Assembly has a 3-1/2" opening once the cap is removed.

Fuel Level Sending Units

What lengths of sending units do you offer?

We carry sending units in 8" and 11" lengths. We also carry a 16" 0-90 ohms range. This measurement is for the aluminum portion that would go inside the fuel cell. The tank would need to be at least 1/4" taller than the aluminum portion.

What ohm ranges are the sending units available in?

We offer the sending units with 0-90 ohms, 70-10 ohms, and 240-33 ranges.

Which ohm reading is empty and which is full?

The first number of the ohms range would be Empty and the second is Full. For example, a 0-90 ohms sending unit would be Empty at 0 ohms and Full at 90 ohms.

What sending unit ohm range would be for a GM/Chevy vehicle?

The 0-90 ohms sending unit has worked with some GM / Chevy fuel gauges, but not all. This applies to stock gauges from 1963 to 1983. After 1983, GM / Chevy fuel gauges can vary.

What sending unit ohm range would be for a Ford/Chrysler vehicle?

The 70-10 ohms sending unit has worked with some Ford / Chrysler fuel gauges, but not all. This applies to stock gauges from 1963 to 1983. After 1983, Ford / Chrysler fuel gauges can vary.

What fuels can be used with our Fuel Level Sending Units?

The sending units are made to work with Unleaded pump gas and Racing fuels. Use of Alcohol, Methanol, Ethanol, or fuel additives will affect the performance of the sending unit and will also void any warranty.

If my fuel cell is more than 11" tall, which sending unit should I use?

The 11" sending unit can be used for this application, but the customer will have some reserve fuel after the fuel gauge goes to Empty. We also carry a 16" 0-90 ohms range. The customer could also try Fuel Safe for a cut-to-length style sending unit.
